How to Choose Trammel Net Mesh Size
Trammel net mesh size should be selected by target fish, local fishing method, net height and legal rules.
Matching mesh to target species
Mesh size directly affects which fish your net can catch. Smaller meshes (7分 to 2指) target shrimp, small fish and bait species. Medium meshes (2.5指 to 4指) are suitable for most commercial fish like croaker, sea bass and pomfret. Large meshes (5指 and above) target larger species such as carp, salmon and tuna. The local fishery regulations in your country may also set minimum mesh limits.
Net height and water depth
Your net height should match the water depth where you fish. Shallow waters (2–5m) require shorter nets around 0.8–1.2m drop. Deeper waters may need 2–6m drop nets to effectively catch fish at different depths. Consider both the net height and the hanging ratio for proper placement.
Common mesh sizes by market
Southeast Asian buyers often request 2指 to 3.5指 mesh for mixed inshore fishing. Russian and European markets typically prefer 3指 to 5指 for cold-water species. African and Latin American importers frequently order 1.5指 to 3指 for inland and coastal fisheries.
